Modern radiology departments face increasing pressure to deliver fast, accurate imaging while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care. The RADspeed Pro SR5 from Shimadzu has been developed with these challenges in mind, bringing together advanced imaging technology, intuitive operation, and patient-focused design.

At the heart of the system is an innovative optical camera integrated into the collimator. This allows clinicians to monitor patients in real time from both the examination and control room, helping maintain patient focus while managing complex workflows. Alongside this, the live view display overlays key imaging information, such as detector position and irradiation field, supporting highly accurate positioning and reducing the need for repeat exposures.

Efficiency is a defining feature of the SR5. With rapid image acquisition and features such as remote collimation and motion detection, radiographers can work more effectively while maintaining confidence in image quality. The system’s ability to detect patient movement and recall previous positioning further minimises retakes and enhances workflow continuity.

Ease of use has also been carefully considered. The SR5 incorporates intuitive controls, clear visual indicators, and ergonomic handling, including power-assisted movement and wireless operation options. These features help reduce operator fatigue and support consistent, precise positioning across a wide range of examinations.

Importantly, patient safety and comfort remain central to the system’s design. From reduced radiation exposure through automatic filtration to protective cushioning around key components, every detail contributes to a safer and more reassuring patient experience.

The Shimadzu RADspeed Pro SR5 is available through HSL, providing healthcare organisations across the UK and Ireland with not only cutting-edge imaging technology, but also a complete support package. From installation and training to ongoing maintenance and service, HSL ensures your department can operate with confidence and continuity.

By combining advanced imaging capabilities with user-focused design and patient-centred innovation, the RADspeed Pro SR5 represents a smarter approach to modern radiography helping departments improve efficiency, enhance patient care, and support clinical excellence every day.

In hospitals and clinical settings where X-rays, fluoroscopy, or laser systems are used every day, personal protective equipment (PPE) has become second nature. Lead aprons, gloves, thyroid shields, these are all standard parts of the daily routine. Yet, one area that often goes unnoticed is the protection of our eyes.

The eyes are among the most sensitive and vulnerable organs in the body. Even small doses of scattered radiation, repeated over time, can lead to cumulative damage. Cataracts and other vision-related problems have been documented among healthcare professionals who work regularly with imaging systems. Similarly, laser procedures pose risks of retinal damage and other irreversible injuries if the eyes are left unprotected. Despite this, eyewear is sometimes treated as optional, rather than as an essential part of everyday PPE.

Why Eye Protection Matters

When working around X-ray or laser equipment, much of the exposure comes not from direct beams but from scatter low-level radiation or reflected laser energy that travels unpredictably through the procedure room. These invisible risks accumulate over years, quietly affecting those who stand closest to the patient or equipment.

The consequences are not immediate, but they are very real. Radiation-induced cataracts can develop gradually, clouding vision and impacting a clinician’s ability to work safely. For laser users, unprotected eyes can suffer burns or permanent retinal injury within fractions of a second. The science is clear: consistent use of certified protective eyewear dramatically reduces these risks and should be treated as a core part of occupational safety.

Setting a New Standard with HSL and SFX-Ray

Hospital Services Limited (HSL), in partnership with SFX-Ray, is proud to champion greater awareness around eye protection. Together, we offer one of the most comprehensive ranges of radiation and laser/radiation glasses available today all CE-Certified and built to meet strict EU regulatory standards.

Our glasses feature Schott SF-6 HT lenses, widely recognised as the gold standard in radiation protection. These lenses offer 0.75 mm Pb lead equivalence, providing excellent attenuation without compromising optical clarity. For frames with built-in side shields, you’ll find 0.50 mm Pb protection as standard, ensuring complete coverage against scatter.

We understand that protection is only effective if people actually wear it. That’s why our range combines performance with comfort and choice. From lightweight, economical models to premium brands with refined designs, our selection includes a variety of frame shapes, sizes, and colours. Every wearer can find a pair that fits well, feels comfortable for long procedures, and performs to the highest standard.

Embedding Eye Awareness into Everyday Practice

Introducing eye protection into your workflow shouldn’t be a challenge it should be a natural extension of good practice. Raising awareness among clinical teams is key. Everyone who works around radiation or laser sources should understand the potential for eye exposure and the importance of proper eyewear. Making radiation glasses part of standard PPE checklists helps reinforce this habit, ensuring staff treat them as essential rather than optional.

Regular fit testing, maintenance, and replacement of protective glasses should also form part of your safety culture. Well-fitted eyewear not only improves protection but also boosts compliance, as comfort and visibility directly influence whether staff choose to wear them consistently.

A Practical Commitment to Eye Safety

At HSL, our goal is straightforward: to help healthcare professionals work safely and confidently. In partnership with SFX-Ray, we supply high-quality, CE-certified radiation and laser glasses built for reliability, comfort, and compliance. With Schott SF-6 HT lenses, 0.75 mm Pb lead protection, and a broad choice of frames and price points, our range ensures there’s an effective solution for every user and environment.

Protecting your eyes is not optional — it’s a critical part of professional safety practice. By standardising the use of certified eyewear, healthcare organisations can significantly reduce exposure risks, meet regulatory requirements, and protect the long-term wellbeing of their staff.

View our full range of radiation and laser glasses HSL Radiation Glasses Brochure and explore our complete selection of radiation protection garments to ensure comprehensive safety for every procedure HSL Radiation Protection Brochure

Our team recently had the opportunity to attend the EAU 2026 Congress in London, where we joined thousands of clinicians, researchers, and industry partners from across the world. As one of the most influential events in the urology calendar, it provided a valuable space to step back, take stock of where the field is heading, and, most importantly, spend time with many of our trusted partners.

One of the most striking aspects of the congress was the pace of innovation across every area of urology. From conversations on the exhibition floor to insights shared during scientific sessions, there was a clear sense that the field is moving steadily toward more precise, patient-centred care. In particular, developments continued refinement and evolution of endourology and urolithiasis care. Alongside this, imaging and diagnostics continue to evolve at an impressive rate. New technologies are enabling earlier and more accurate detection of disease, which in turn supports more personalised treatment decisions. It was encouraging to see how these innovations are no longer theoretical but increasingly being integrated into clinical practice.

Minimally invasive and image-guided therapies were another consistent theme throughout the event. Live and recorded procedural sessions highlighted how far techniques have progressed, with a strong focus on precision, recovery times, and overall patient experience. The shift toward less invasive approaches is clearly not just a trend, but a fundamental change in how urological care is delivered.

Beyond the science and technology, what made the experience particularly valuable for us was the opportunity to connect face-to-face with our urology partners. These conversations gave us a deeper understanding of the challenges clinicians are facing in real-world settings, as well as the opportunities to work together more closely. There is something uniquely powerful about being able to exchange ideas in person, and events like EAU continue to play a vital role in strengthening those relationships.

Leaving London, there was a strong sense that urology is entering an exciting phase, one defined by greater precision, better use of data, and closer collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem. The insights we gained and the discussions we had will directly inform how we continue to support our customers moving forward.

Overall, our time at EAU 2026 was both energising and thought-provoking. It reinforced the importance of staying connected to the wider urology community and remaining engaged with the innovations that are shaping the future of patient care. We are pleased to offer our full stone mangement solution The-Complete-Stone-Management-Solution-from-HSL-V6.pdf

In busy clinical environments such as intensive care units, emergency departments and inpatient wards, mobile imaging plays a vital role in patient care. Clinicians need fast, reliable information at the point of care often for patients who are too unwell to be moved. HSL is proud to support this need by distributing Konica Minolta’s AeroDR TX across the UK and Ireland, introducing Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) to mobile X-ray.

Unlike traditional mobile X-ray systems that produce a single static image, DDR captures a rapid sequence of images over time, creating a dynamic view of anatomy in motion. This allows clinicians to visualise physiological movement such as lung expansion, diaphragmatic motion and changes in airflow directly at the bedside. The result is functional insight that goes beyond anatomy alone, delivered using a workflow that fits seamlessly into routine radiographic practice.

The AeroDR TX has been designed to make this advanced capability practical in everyday clinical settings. Compact, manoeuvrable and wireless, the system enables radiographers to perform both static and dynamic imaging using the same mobile unit, without transferring patients to an imaging department. This is particularly valuable for critically ill or immobile patients, where minimising movement can reduce risk, improve comfort and save valuable clinical time.

By combining DDR with mobile radiography, AeroDR TX supports more informed clinical decision-making while maintaining low radiation dose and efficient examination times. For imaging teams, the technology feels familiar to use, yet opens the door to new ways of assessing patient physiology, especially in acute and critical care pathways where speed and insight matter most.

To help NHS Trusts fully explore the potential of this technology, HSL is offering an in-Trust education programme titled DDR Insight Event: Mobile X-Ray Education Session. This CPD-accredited session is designed to give radiographers, clinicians and imaging leaders the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with AeroDR TX and understand how Dynamic Digital Radiography can be applied in real clinical scenarios.

Delivered on site at your Trust, the DDR Insight Event combines live system demonstrations with practical discussion around workflows, use cases and clinical benefits. Attendees can engage directly with the technology, ask questions, and build confidence in how DDR could support patient care within their own departments.

By bringing this education directly to Trusts across the UK and Ireland, HSL aims to make next-generation mobile imaging accessible, practical and clinically relevant. Whether your organisation is exploring DDR for the first time or looking to expand its understanding of advanced mobile X-ray capabilities, the DDR Masterclass offers a valuable opportunity to experience this innovation first-hand.

To book a Mobile X-Ray Education Session or to find out more about AeroDR TX, please contact HSL today.

Its 17 × 17-inch flat-panel detector delivers the clarity and detail required for confident diagnosis, while its low-dose imaging technology allows clinicians to work safely and responsibly, keeping patient exposure as low as reasonably achievable without compromising image quality.

A defining characteristic of Intelli-C is its thoughtful approach to workflow. The system’s fully motorised, tilt-C design allows clinicians to move seamlessly between different imaging positions, with automated C-arm movements and programmable geometry that reduce the time spent repositioning equipment. This makes the system not only efficient, but also comfortable for patients who may have limited mobility or who require longer, more complex studies. The table’s carbon-fibre construction, smooth elevation range and high weight capacity further enhance accessibility, making Intelli-C suitable for a wide spectrum of patients, from routine cases to bariatric care.

Beyond its ergonomic benefits, Intelli-C has quickly become known for its clinical versatility. It supports the full breadth of GI fluoroscopy including swallow studies, barium procedures and functional examinations, while also offering the precision and stability needed for interventional radiology and pain management injections. For departments striving to maximise room utilisation and reduce bottlenecks, a hybrid imaging system like Intelli-C can have a profound impact on throughput and scheduling flexibility.

However, what truly strengthens the value of Intelli-C for hospitals in the UK and Ireland is the comprehensive service that accompanies it. As the official distributor, HSL offers a complete, end-to-end approach that begins long before installation. Their team works closely with hospitals to plan spaces, determine the best configuration, and ensure that the system integrates seamlessly into existing workflows. Once installed, clinicians and radiographers benefit from hands-on applications training, ensuring they can make full use of the Intelli-C’s capabilities from day one. And because imaging technology is only as good as its long-term support, HSL remains involved long after go-live, providing maintenance, software updates and refresher training to keep departments running smoothly.

This partnership-based approach has already demonstrated its value across multiple NHS sites. In England, the first Intelli-C hybrid fluoroscopy suite represented a major step forward in the trust’s diagnostic capabilities, with clinicians praising its versatility, workflow efficiency and ease of use. The success of this initial project – Pioneering Innovation: First NRT Intelli-C Hybrid Fluoroscopy Suite Installed in NHS England – Hospital Services Limited UK – led directly to the rollout of a second Intelli-C suite within the same trust, NHS England Expands with Second NRT Intelli-C Hybrid Fluoroscopy Suite from HSL – Hospital Services Limited UK further reinforcing both the system’s performance and HSL’s reputation as a dependable long-term imaging technology partner.

As healthcare services continue to modernise and digital imaging becomes even more central to clinical decision-making, solutions like Intelli-C are helping departments elevate their standard of care without increasing complexity. Its combination of advanced imaging, intelligent workflow features and multi-disciplinary versatility positions it as one of the most capable hybrid X-ray systems available today.

With HSL supporting every step—from consultation and installation to training and ongoing service—Intelli-C is more than just a piece of equipment. It is a long-term investment in clinical efficiency, patient comfort and diagnostic precision for hospitals and imaging departments across the UK and Ireland.

The Dornier Thulio represents a major step forward in modern urology, combining exceptional performance with a level of versatility that allows clinicians to manage both stone disease and BPH treatment using a single, compact platform. As an Dornier MedTech partner , HSL is proud to bring the Thulio to hospitals and clinics across the UK and Ireland — complete with expert installation, comprehensive user training, and long-term technical and clinical support.

The Thulio is built around a powerful 100 W pulsed Thulium:YAG laser system, engineered to deliver high energy with remarkable stability and precision. Its RealPulse® technology ensures efficient energy delivery and excellent performance across a wide range of applications. From delicate stone dusting to high-energy fragmentation and anatomical prostate enucleation, the Thulio gives clinicians the control, flexibility, and power they need for efficient and predictable outcomes.

For kidney stone management, the Thulio excels in both dusting and fragmenting techniques. Its fine-tuned energy settings allow stones to be reduced to dust-like particles with speed and efficiency, while specialised fragmentation modes provide the power required for harder or larger calculi. Captive fragmentation helps to significantly reduce retropulsion, an advantage that improves procedural efficiency and surgeon control. Urologists benefit from being able to switch seamlessly between modes during a procedure, maintaining a smooth surgical workflow.

The Thulio is equally impressive in BPH surgery. With its dedicated enucleation mode, surgeons can perform precise and controlled prostate enucleation supported by excellent coagulation. The Thulium:YAG wavelength’s natural affinity for water-rich tissue results in cleaner cutting and enhanced haemostasis, helping to deliver clarity and confidence throughout the procedure.

While its clinical performance is a standout, the Thulio is also designed for practicality in the operating room. It delivers high power from a surprisingly compact footprint, operates quietly, and runs from a standard power socket — making integration into an existing theatre environment straightforward. A large, rotatable touchscreen and intuitive interface reduce setup time and simplify use, while flexible fibre options give clinicians greater freedom in adapting the device to different procedures.

By choosing the Dornier Thulio through HSL, healthcare providers gain far more than a high-performance laser. Our team manages the full installation process to ensure seamless integration with your clinical environment. We provide comprehensive in-person training for surgeons, nurses, and technical teams, ensuring everyone is confident in using the Thulio’s full range of modes and settings. Beyond installation, HSL delivers ongoing support, from routine servicing and calibration to clinical guidance and operational advice, giving your team the reassurance of a trusted, long-term partner.

The Dornier Thulio represents a new benchmark for multi-application laser technology in urology, combining stone lithotripsy, soft-tissue surgery, and prostate enucleation in one expertly engineered system. With HSL’s installation, training, and ongoing support, your team can deploy the Dornier Thulio with total confidence, knowing you are backed by specialists committed to clinical excellence and long-term reliability.
