Our team recently had the opportunity to attend the EAU 2026 Congress in London, where we joined thousands of clinicians, researchers, and industry partners from across the world. As one of the most influential events in the urology calendar, it provided a valuable space to step back, take stock of where the field is heading, and, most importantly, spend time with many of our trusted partners.

One of the most striking aspects of the congress was the pace of innovation across every area of urology. From conversations on the exhibition floor to insights shared during scientific sessions, there was a clear sense that the field is moving steadily toward more precise, patient-centred care. In particular, developments continued refinement and evolution of endourology and urolithiasis care. Alongside this, imaging and diagnostics continue to evolve at an impressive rate. New technologies are enabling earlier and more accurate detection of disease, which in turn supports more personalised treatment decisions. It was encouraging to see how these innovations are no longer theoretical but increasingly being integrated into clinical practice.

Minimally invasive and image-guided therapies were another consistent theme throughout the event. Live and recorded procedural sessions highlighted how far techniques have progressed, with a strong focus on precision, recovery times, and overall patient experience. The shift toward less invasive approaches is clearly not just a trend, but a fundamental change in how urological care is delivered.

Beyond the science and technology, what made the experience particularly valuable for us was the opportunity to connect face-to-face with our urology partners. These conversations gave us a deeper understanding of the challenges clinicians are facing in real-world settings, as well as the opportunities to work together more closely. There is something uniquely powerful about being able to exchange ideas in person, and events like EAU continue to play a vital role in strengthening those relationships.

Leaving London, there was a strong sense that urology is entering an exciting phase, one defined by greater precision, better use of data, and closer collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem. The insights we gained and the discussions we had will directly inform how we continue to support our customers moving forward.

Overall, our time at EAU 2026 was both energising and thought-provoking. It reinforced the importance of staying connected to the wider urology community and remaining engaged with the innovations that are shaping the future of patient care. We are pleased to offer our full stone mangement solution The-Complete-Stone-Management-Solution-from-HSL-V6.pdf

The installation and launch of a second NRT Intelli-C Hybrid Fluoroscopy Suite within NHS England represents another landmark moment in advancing diagnostic and interventional imaging. Building on the success of the Trust’s first installation, this expansion strengthens its commitment to delivering world-class patient care through cutting-edge technology.

Following the successful deployment of the first Intelli-C Suite earlier this year, the second installation further enhances clinical capacity and operational flexibility. With both systems now live, the Trust is uniquely positioned to meet growing demand for high-quality diagnostic imaging and complex interventional procedures.

The Intelli-C Hybrid Suite unites fluoroscopy, radiography, and advanced interventional capabilities in a single, highly versatile platform. Its precision imaging and adaptable workflow tools empower clinicians to perform a broad spectrum of procedures with efficiency, accuracy, and confidence.

Hannah Garnett, Advanced Practitioner GI/GU Fluoroscopy Radiographer at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, commented on the impact of the new technology:
“The fluoroscopy units are very versatile, allowing a wide range of procedures to be carried out with ease, improving the service for patients and image quality for clinicians. Our fluoroscopy suites are now modernised and more patient friendly, accommodating patients with varying needs.”

Training has been completed for the Trust’s dedicated clinical teams, ensuring both installations are fully optimised for patient benefit. The dual-suite configuration is expected to significantly reduce bottlenecks, expand service availability, and support faster, more effective care delivery.

This achievement reflects the close collaboration between HSL, NRT, and the Trust. From initial planning to installation and training, each stage has been driven by a shared commitment to clinical excellence and innovation. Together, the partnership is helping to set new standards in hybrid imaging technology within the NHS.

With two Intelli-C Suites now operational, the Trust has solidified its leadership in advanced imaging, reaffirming its vision to invest in state-of-the-art solutions that meet the evolving needs of patients and clinicians alike.

This milestone demonstrates how sustained innovation and collaboration can directly translate into improved outcomes, ensuring NHS patients continue to benefit from the very best in diagnostic and interventional care.

Continuing its 60-year growth journey from a family business into a key player in healthcare distribution across the UK and Ireland, Belfast-headquartered Hospital Services Limited (HSL) has announced its recent significant investment from European Asker Healthcare Group.

A leading specialist distributor and services provider of medical equipment and related supplies, maintenance services and repairs to hospitals across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain, HSL’s reputation for supporting public and private hospitals across the UK and Republic of Ireland has been established over six decades of close partnership with an emphasis on understanding the unique requirements and challenges of customers within public and private hospitals across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Bolstered by significant investment from Foresight Group between 2015 and 2023 and operating from its Belfast headquarters with offices in Dublin, Meath and Wicklow in Ireland and Derby and Westbury in Great Britain, HSL has seen nearly seven-fold growth since 2015 and five-fold growth of its team from 30 to 175.

HSL provides high-quality equipment to a growing number of customers on both sides of the Irish Sea, with over 500 medical facilities supported in 2024. Its service and maintenance division ensures minimal downtime for key hospital equipment – a vital issue for healthcare providers amid high patient demand. The company’s product and solutions offering includes diagnostic imaging and detection equipment, surgical devices, patient monitoring equipment, and a range of healthcare and communication technologies which support healthcare professionals throughout the patient care pathway.

Commenting on the investment Johan Falk, CEO Asker Healthcare Group added, “With the acquisition of HSL we are taking another step in our ambition to build the leading healthcare group in Europe within medical products and solutions. HSL has an attractive equipment and services offering that will complement our group well and further strengthen our scale benefits. The HSL team and their track record of building strong customer and OEM relationships while also being a local consolidator has truly impressed us. We see HSL as our base for future growth in the region and are looking forward to drive progress in healthcare together with Dominic Walsh and his team.”

HSL CEO Dominic Walsh added, “Over the past 60 years we have established ourselves as a trusted partner to healthcare providers in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and GB and are now one of the largest privately-owned medical equipment and service providers in the region. Becoming part of Asker Healthcare Group signifies a strategic step which will provide us with an even stronger offer with more innovative solutions to help to improve patient care. We are now ready for the next phase of our growth path.”

Reflecting on their successful partnership and exit from Hospital Serices Limited, James Livingston, Partner at Foresight Group added: “HSL is an excellent example of our unique commitment to investing in, building and growing companies across Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic Ireland. HSL has transformed from a small, family business into one of the largest privately-owned healthcare product distributors, with its team providing important on-going technical and clinical support to hospitals on both sides of the Irish Sea. We wish its dedicated and entrepreneurial team every success under the new ownership and are confident it will continue to thrive.”

On their long-standing and fruitful relationship with Foresight Group Dominic Walsh said, “Over the last decade, Foresight Group has been instrumental in helping Hospital Services to grow quickly in the right way. It has been a great relationship and they have brought so much more to our business than just investment, they have facilitated positive challenge, strategic direction and expertise in ESG.”

Last week, HSL exhibited at the Mammo Symposium in Glasgow with its innovative Barco home reporting setup for mammography. The symposium, dedicated to advancements in breast imaging and diagnostics, provided an ideal platform for HSL to showcase their cutting-edge technology and highlight the potential it holds for the future of mammography reporting.

HSL’s home reporting set up for mammography promises to bring significant improvements to the reporting process, making it more efficient, convenient, and accessible for radiologists. Traditionally, radiologists have been required to be physically present in a dedicated reporting room to interpret mammograms. However, HSL’s solution allows for remote reporting from the comfort of their own homes, without compromising accuracy or quality.

By introducing a home reporting setup, HSL tackles several challenges faced by radiologists in the traditional reporting process. The flexibility offered by this setup enables radiologists to work remotely, eliminating the need for them to be physically present in the hospital. This not only promotes work-life balance but also facilitates the recruitment of radiologists from remote areas, ensuring faster turnaround times and improved access to expert opinions.

As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, it is evident that HSL’s home reporting set up for mammography is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of breast imaging and diagnostics. With its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and patient-centricity, HSL is driving positive change in mammography reporting, ensuring a brighter and healthier future for women worldwide.
Many radiology departments across the UK have already discovered the benefits of teleradiology for shifting the reporting workflow away from the clinical setting and improving efficiencies in reporting. Following recent news of a £250 million investment in technology to improve diagnostics within the NHS in England, the value of home reporting as a solution to address the backlog, keep staff safe, and reduce the administrative load whilst freeing up more time for diagnostics and reporting is more evident now than ever.

Through its partnership with leading provider of premium display solutions LG, Hospital Services Limited (HSL) is not only facilitating the commission of an impressive volume of home reporting stations for trusts and private hospitals across the UK and Ireland, HSL also provides ongoing calibration and quality assurance services and offers independent assessment and maintenance of installations to ensure compliance and consistency whether at the hospital, clinic, office or home.

HSL and LG have partnered to deliver this technology into hospitals and clinics across the UK and Ireland over the past year following LG’s launch of their medical displays into the local market. The partnership most recently saw the commissioning of 49 diagnostic monitors delivered into the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust which will address the continued backlogs faced in Northern Ireland. By recreating the workplace environment in the home, LG and HSL are delivering a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and reliability for home reporting set-ups.

Working together to deliver efficiencies for resource-strapped radiologists, LG and HSL are reminding radiology teams of the importance of ongoing monitoring, calibration and maintenance of the at-home working environment to ensure it is best suited for the radiologist to undertake diagnoses.

Guidelines from the Royal College of Radiologists, ‘RCR Guidelines on Diagnostic Display Devices – Third edition Feb 2019’, contain strong recommendations in relation to diagnostic display devices and the ergonomic viewing environment and also advise that calibration of these devices is not just a one-off: “If commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) displays are chosen, a workplace must also operate and document a regular quality-control and calibration programme. Standards exist to ensure devices meet quality benchmarks throughout their working lifespans”. The report continues, “The viewing environment should be strictly controlled in the primary diagnostic setting. For clinical review the environment should be controlled as best achievable”. The NHS Breast Screening Programme (BSP) standard echoes the importance of ensuring quality control and continued calibration of screen set ups.

“Not only does home reporting offer a clear advantage for radiology departments under pressure, it can also encourage better access to specialists working within radiology teams as the patient is no longer constricted by geographical location,” said Graham Stewart, Commercial & Finance Director, HSL.

“Whilst the efficiencies and access provided by home reporting are certainly to be celebrated, it is of utmost importance that the quality of reporting and trust in diagnostics remains uncompromised. Healthcare providers owe it to their clinicians and patients to provide the best tools, an optimum environment, and correctly calibrated displays. To fully meet updated guidelines, our team supports the regular use of calibration software complimented with on-site visits to perform QA, calibration including 5 point uniformity, multi-monitor testing and visual pattern checks.” In addition to the maintenance and assessment of diagnostic tools and technologies, HSL’s specialist team also provides on-site ergonomic reports to help guide the implementation of the right solution for a friendly, ergonomic working environment for radiology professionals and wider disciplines including digital pathology.
