In modern radiology and fluoroscopy departments, flexibility, efficiency, and reliability are becoming just as important as image quality. As hospitals and clinical environments look for ways to streamline diagnostics while maintaining exceptional standards of care, the Intelli-C multipurpose X-ray system has emerged as one of the most forward-thinking solutions on the market. Distributed throughout the UK and Ireland by HSL (Hospital Services Limited), Intelli-C brings together advanced imaging performance with intuitive workflow design, all supported by a partner that provides installation, training, and ongoing technical expertise from start to finish.

What sets Intelli-C apart is its ability to handle an impressive range of procedures through a single, versatile platform. Designed for both radiographic and fluoroscopic work, the system supports everything from routine examinations to GI studies and interventional procedures. Its 17 × 17-inch flat-panel detector delivers the clarity and detail required for confident diagnosis, while its low-dose imaging technology allows clinicians to work safely and responsibly, keeping patient exposure as low as reasonably achievable without compromising image quality.

A defining characteristic of Intelli-C is its thoughtful approach to workflow. The system’s fully motorised, tilt-C design allows clinicians to move seamlessly between different imaging positions, with automated C-arm movements and programmable geometry that reduce the time spent repositioning equipment. This makes the system not only efficient, but also comfortable for patients who may have limited mobility or who require longer, more complex studies. The table’s carbon-fibre construction, smooth elevation range and high weight capacity further enhance accessibility, making Intelli-C suitable for a wide spectrum of patients, from routine cases to bariatric care.

Beyond its ergonomic benefits, Intelli-C has quickly become known for its clinical versatility. It supports the full breadth of GI fluoroscopy including swallow studies, barium procedures and functional examinations, while also offering the precision and stability needed for interventional radiology and pain management injections. For departments striving to maximise room utilisation and reduce bottlenecks, a hybrid imaging system like Intelli-C can have a profound impact on throughput and scheduling flexibility.

However, what truly strengthens the value of Intelli-C for hospitals in the UK and Ireland is the comprehensive service that accompanies it. As the official distributor, HSL offers a complete, end-to-end approach that begins long before installation. Their team works closely with hospitals to plan spaces, determine the best configuration, and ensure that the system integrates seamlessly into existing workflows. Once installed, clinicians and radiographers benefit from hands-on applications training, ensuring they can make full use of the Intelli-C’s capabilities from day one. And because imaging technology is only as good as its long-term support, HSL remains involved long after go-live, providing maintenance, software updates and refresher training to keep departments running smoothly.

This partnership-based approach has already demonstrated its value across multiple NHS sites. In England, the first Intelli-C hybrid fluoroscopy suite represented a major step forward in the trust’s diagnostic capabilities, with clinicians praising its versatility, workflow efficiency and ease of use. The success of this initial project – Pioneering Innovation: First NRT Intelli-C Hybrid Fluoroscopy Suite Installed in NHS England – Hospital Services Limited UK – led directly to the rollout of a second Intelli-C suite within the same trust, NHS England Expands with Second NRT Intelli-C Hybrid Fluoroscopy Suite from HSL – Hospital Services Limited UK further reinforcing both the system’s performance and HSL’s reputation as a dependable long-term imaging technology partner.

As healthcare services continue to modernise and digital imaging becomes even more central to clinical decision-making, solutions like Intelli-C are helping departments elevate their standard of care without increasing complexity. Its combination of advanced imaging, intelligent workflow features and multi-disciplinary versatility positions it as one of the most capable hybrid X-ray systems available today.

With HSL supporting every step—from consultation and installation to training and ongoing service—Intelli-C is more than just a piece of equipment. It is a long-term investment in clinical efficiency, patient comfort and diagnostic precision for hospitals and imaging departments across the UK and Ireland.

We are happy to announce that we have successfully delivered a radiology project in partnership with the Department of Radiology at Blackpool Teaching Hospital, which will help the hospital’s radiology team continue to deliver an outstanding level of patient care and diagnostics. The streamlined radiology system will help the In-Patient Department of Radiology to facilitate the over 28,000 in-patients who pass through its general x-ray doors each year whilst increasing efficiencies to help address waiting times and improving patient experience.

Over the last year, we have consulted with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, general X-ray team to supply a general x-ray room which can be used across a diverse patient demographic. The Shimadzu RADspeed Pro general radiographic system has provided an improved workflow for busy teams whilst also achieving dose reduction for patients.

“In addition to the streamlined workflow which the system offers that enables our team to treat more patients more effectively, the adaptability of the system means that the same technology can be used for diagnostic imaging of patients ranging from paediatrics to elderly patients,”

said Joanne Peacock, (Interim) General X-Ray Manager.

“The technology will also help our team to answer the growing demand for chest x-rays as patients dealing with prolonged ‘long-Covid’ symptoms continue to present with ongoing imaging requirements.”

The newly installed Shimadzu RADspeed pro system is our first installation of its type in England and Scotland and the first radiography project we have carried out within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. In addition to providing a more intuitive and comfortable experience for radiographers and patients, the system also utilises image stitching software powered by Canon, where the x-ray is programmed to take several pictures and render them together into one larger x-ray image on screen for a more comprehensive view of the area being examined.

Commenting on the newly-forged relationship between HSL and Blackpool Victoria Hospital HSL CEO Dominic Walsh said,

“We are proud to have worked side by side with the Department of Radiology at Blackpool Victoria Hospital to ensure that the project delivered tangible benefits to the hospital’s radiography team and patients alike. The Shimadzu RADspeed Pro which has been installed within the Department is a truly robust and versatile piece of equipment which can be used for a wide range and high volume of patients to help improve patient through-put and streamline the workflow for the very busy radiography team.”

Specialist distributor of surgical equipment Hospital Services Limited (HSL) has supplied and installed a new state-of-the-art Fujifilm ELUXEO endoscopy system at Charter Medical Private Hospital (CMPH), formerly St Francis Private Hospital, in Mullingar. Complete with Ireland’s first CAD EYE artificial intelligence (AI) technology and boasting Multi LightTM technology that ensures the imaging quality meets the highest standards in brightness and contrast, this Fujifilm ELUXEO system is a monumental move forward for Irish healthcare.

Representing an investment of €450,000, the former St Francis Private Hospital acquired and renamed by Charter Medical Group on 1st November, has teamed up with HSL to ensure their endoscopy suite features the latest endoscopy technology to identify and diagnose abnormal tissue growth within the body using both video gastro and colonoscopes.

Achieving optimal diagnostic and therapeutic results in endoscopic procedures is highly dependent on image quality. CMPH’s new Fujifilm ELUXEO endoscopic system’s high-intensity illumination creates high-quality images with White Light Imaging and the observation modes LCI (Linked Colour Imaging) and BLI (Blue Light Imaging). These light modes provide superior image quality and help to gather optimal visual information for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in daily clinical practice.

Innovation is one of HSL’s core values and ensuring customer and patient care is the company’s main priority. This technological solution provided by HSL will help contribute to a better outcome for many patients affected by colon or gastro related concerns and illnesses throughout Ireland.

Commenting on CMPH’s new endoscopy system, HSL CEO Dominic Walsh said,

We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to partner with Charter Medical Private Hospital to install this world-class Fujifilm ELUXEO system. The highly advanced technology surpasses that of any of its counter parts in aiding abnormal lesion detection and diagnosis. CMPH’s ELUXEO system is also complete with Ireland’s first CAD EYE AI technology, meaning the endoscopy suite is like none other in the country. We are very much looking forward to see the great work that comes out of this endoscopy suite over the coming months, resulting in more patients availing of vital early diagnosis and more lives being saved.”

In addition to its ELUXEO 700 series scopes, the Fujifilm endoscopy system at the Mullingar hospital is also home to CAD EYE artificial intelligence technology. The CAD EYE system has been developed utilising AI deep learning technology and is compatible with Fujifilm’s ELUXEO endoscopy series to support endoscopic lesion detection and characterisation in the colon.

CAD EYE is aimed at improving the real time polyp detection rate, helping to recognise flat lesions and multiple polyps simultaneously, as well as any lesions at the corner of the image. Once a suspected polyp is detected by CAD EYE detection, this ground-breaking technology becomes a real-time support system for healthcare professionals acting as a second pair of eyes to accurately detect and characterise colonic polyps as cancerous or non-cancerous (hyperplastic or neoplastic).

“We are extremely happy with our new Fujifilm ELUXEO system, made possible for CMPH by HSL”

said Thomas Byrne Executive Chairman of Charter Medical Private Hospital.

“As part of Charter Medical Group’s approach in developing the treatments available to patients from CMPH, we have commenced a capital investment programme, which has begun with the installation of the Fujifilm ELUXEO endoscopy system. To have Ireland’s first CAD EYE AI system installed within our suite is a huge privilege and the ability to initiate real-time analysis of lesions and polyps is a tremendous step forward for endoscopy treatment within Ireland.”

A common concern amongst many endoscopy patients is the unpleasant nature of the procedure. However, Fujifilm’s development of the interface has been designed to enable a more comfortable experience for the patient. CAD EYE does not interfere with clinical images and minimises required eye movement. Its display is designed to be simple and intuitive for excellent support during long hours in the examination room. CAD EYE’s user friendly interface was also awarded a Good Design Award in 2019.
