In busy clinical environments such as intensive care units, emergency departments and inpatient wards, mobile imaging plays a vital role in patient care. Clinicians need fast, reliable information at the point of care often for patients who are too unwell to be moved. HSL is proud to support this need by distributing Konica Minolta’s AeroDR TX across the UK and Ireland, introducing Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) to mobile X-ray.

Unlike traditional mobile X-ray systems that produce a single static image, DDR captures a rapid sequence of images over time, creating a dynamic view of anatomy in motion. This allows clinicians to visualise physiological movement such as lung expansion, diaphragmatic motion and changes in airflow directly at the bedside. The result is functional insight that goes beyond anatomy alone, delivered using a workflow that fits seamlessly into routine radiographic practice.

The AeroDR TX has been designed to make this advanced capability practical in everyday clinical settings. Compact, manoeuvrable and wireless, the system enables radiographers to perform both static and dynamic imaging using the same mobile unit, without transferring patients to an imaging department. This is particularly valuable for critically ill or immobile patients, where minimising movement can reduce risk, improve comfort and save valuable clinical time.

By combining DDR with mobile radiography, AeroDR TX supports more informed clinical decision-making while maintaining low radiation dose and efficient examination times. For imaging teams, the technology feels familiar to use, yet opens the door to new ways of assessing patient physiology, especially in acute and critical care pathways where speed and insight matter most.

To help NHS Trusts fully explore the potential of this technology, HSL is offering an in-Trust education programme titled DDR Insight Event: Mobile X-Ray Education Session. This CPD-accredited session is designed to give radiographers, clinicians and imaging leaders the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with AeroDR TX and understand how Dynamic Digital Radiography can be applied in real clinical scenarios.

Delivered on site at your Trust, the DDR Insight Event combines live system demonstrations with practical discussion around workflows, use cases and clinical benefits. Attendees can engage directly with the technology, ask questions, and build confidence in how DDR could support patient care within their own departments.

By bringing this education directly to Trusts across the UK and Ireland, HSL aims to make next-generation mobile imaging accessible, practical and clinically relevant. Whether your organisation is exploring DDR for the first time or looking to expand its understanding of advanced mobile X-ray capabilities, the DDR Masterclass offers a valuable opportunity to experience this innovation first-hand.

To book a Mobile X-Ray Education Session or to find out more about AeroDR TX, please contact HSL today.

A leading supplier of integrated healthcare solutions which specialises in the distribution of cutting-edge medical imaging devices, Hospital Services Limited is partnering with health trusts across the UK and Ireland to deliver solutions to improve imaging quality and streamline workflows whilst working within limitations presented by hospital architecture. Featuring a compact design which works with low ceiling heights, the Shimadzu RadSpeed Fit can be installed without the need for extensive and costly building works.

The Shimadzu RadSpeed Fit offers fantastic image quality and is equipped with a floating tabletop that can support up to 320kg, an X-ray tube that can be moved freely over a wide range for truly easy positioning, and a removable grid to reduce patient exposure. Additionally, with its high image quality due to the large output power and simple operability, the RadSpeed Fit offers a sense of ease and operational comfort for users. The system is also equipped with a high-power generator with a maximum tube current of 500 mA (32 kW type) or 630 mA (56 kW type), levels that are unprecedented in conventional floor-mounted X-ray rooms. This provides imaging quality comparable to high-end models and ensures consistency of X-ray image diagnoses.

The Shimadzu RadSpeed Fit is compatible with the newest Shimadzu 99µm Glassless detector and advanced imaging software including Vuno AI Chest screening and its easy-to-use floor-mounted system is designed for ease and comfort in radiography.

Commenting on how HSL has enabled trusts to upgrade their imaging technologies whilst working within budgetary and physical limitations in their facilities HSL’s Regional Director of Operations Steve Leatherland said, “HSL has over 60 years’ experience working in partnership with trusts across the UK and Ireland to ensure they are delivering a high standard of patient care whilst also working to maximise efficiencies and improve user experience for radiography teams.”

“Now, more than ever, healthcare trusts across the board are seeking out ways to optimise their limited budgets. Because of the high adaptability of the RadSpeed Fit to work within areas of the hospital with lower ceiling clearances, trusts can avoid costly building projects that could be required of other comparable equipment to create required headspace whilst remaining uncompromised on the high standard of imaging and diagnostics carried out within their departments,” Steve added.

HSL partners with hospitals and trusts throughout the UK on a wide range of imaging projects, from general x-ray equipment to more specialised products including cutting-edge flat panel C-Arm suites, image guided lithotripsy systems and high-end lasers. Its team works closely in partnership with radiology and surgical teams to develop an understanding of their needs and deliver technologies that meet requirements for accuracy, ease of use, durability, and user and patient experience whilst also providing comprehensive continued support for maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing when required.

In addition to supplying state of the art technologies for healthcare, HSL’s team provides a high level of continued support for trusts, offering continued training, maintenance, and servicing to ensure that standards are maintained beyond the installation phase of the project.

Specialist distributor of surgical equipment Hospital Services Limited (HSL) has supplied and installed Ireland’s-first state-of-the-art ophthalmic laser within the ophthalmology department at UPMC Kildare Hospital. The Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 laser will revolutionise the patient experience when it comes to laser eye surgery due to its less-invasive design and precise performance.

Whereas traditional microkeratome laser procedures use a blade to cut a flap into the cornea and allow lasers to reshape and correct the patient’s vision, the Ziemer femtosecond laser installed at UPMC Kildare Hospital offers a bladeless alternative. Using very short pulses of energy, the Ziemer laser creates tiny gas bubbles that employ the same entry incisions as the microkeratome laser procedure, without using a blade. The Ziemer laser results in clearer vision and no increase in visual complaints observed in the eyes after corneal refractive surgery, compared to the more common microkeratome procedure.

The technology will allow patients to avail of a more comfortable, individually tailored eye health experience by precisely pinpointing the locations at which it will separate the eye tissues, ensuring a custom procedure perfectly designed for each patient. To ensure the best possible surgical results, advanced patient interfaces for both cataract and corneal surgery have been developed especially for the Ziemer laser. The patient interfaces are one-piece devices with hydrogel contact lenses that are positioned within the laser to prevent corneal folds that can interfere with the introduction of the laser energy into the eye.

The highly flexible and intuitive articulated arm and the laser’s unique architecture enable for seamless integration into an ophthalmologist’s established surgical workflow. The unique design enables patients to stay in one place throughout the duration of their procedure, ensuring the highest degree of comfort for the surgeon and the patient as well as a sterile and more efficient procedure. The specially-designed laser delivers a gentler surgery as it uses very low energy, is ultrafast and is highly accurate. Patients will be left with minimal wound healing reactions and no damage to cells.

Innovation is one of HSL’s core values and ensuring patient care is the company’s main priority. This technological solution provided by HSL will help contribute to a better outcome for the large number of patients who undergo laser eye surgery each year at UPMC Kildare Hospital, resulting in superior eye health throughout Ireland.

Commenting on UPMC’s new Ziemer laser, HSL CEO Dominic Walsh said,

“We are delighted to introduce Ireland’s first Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 ophthalmic laser to UPMC Kildare Hospital. The only hospital on the island of Ireland to currently have access to this world-class technology, UPMC Kildare Hospital is now leading the way for eye health in Ireland. The mobile laser will ensure optimum surgical results and patient comfort, which is vital for outstanding patient care. We are looking forward to seeing the great work that comes out of the ophthalmology department over the coming months and continuing to support the team in the roll out of this fantastic technology.”

It is the Ziemer laser’s versatility that allows ophthalmologists’ demands to be met through one innovative technology. It can be used during refractive laser eye surgery, laser cataract surgery, therapeutic procedures and for surgical planning by OCT imaging.

“To have Ireland’s first Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 ophthalmic laser installed within UPMC Kildare Hospital is momentous for us,”

Said Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon Prof Michael O’Keefe.

“We are extremely thankful to the team at HSL for working with us over an eight-week period to install the technology and train our team on how to use the laser most efficiently and precisely. It is a huge privilege to be the first in Ireland to use the Ziemer Z8 model during vital eye surgeries, whilst being able to provide our patients with a more comfortable procedure that offers a higher chance of success.”

The Ziemer Z8 model has also been built with Lenticule Application – Corneal Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive Correction (CLEAR) which is a newly developed and proprietary application intended for the treatment of Myopia (short-sightedness) and Astigmatism (uneven light focus causing blurriness). One of the key advantages of CLEAR is that cornea incisions can be crafted and positioned with a high degree of precision, thereby greatly improving the predictability, effectiveness and stability of such intricate procedures.

The mobile Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 model is unique, offering the highest repetition rate of any femtosecond laser. The model features overlapping laser spots that result in, complete resections free of tissue bridges, smooth stromal beds, high precision and predictability and capsule edges that are hard to distinguish from edges seen in conventional surgery.
